They should have a snap ring that sits in the "ribs" on the shock body. Get the weight off the bike and push down the springs. Move that snap ring to the groove you want to set it on. Just make sure it seats all the way.

    Ditto...

Lots of laughs... When I got my Custom Axis, I was out at the track, and I wanted to change the preload... And I had the front of the quad lifted up, and then "turned" the collars... counting how many turns I made, and then did the other side... You should have seen my reaction when I was told later that Custom Axis has "ribs" that dictated the preload with the snap-ring!

NOTE: This is for their front shocks...

Oh come on Marlin... you didn't notice tha the ring wasn't moving down as you counted? How high did you count trying to get some type of improvement?

Or did you go out and ride and think to yourself "much better". hah. All in your head!

I remember counting to 14... And I remember the right one being harder to turn to 14, so i only went to something like 9, and then went back to the left one and went back 5...

I was surprised that with this much effort, I did not see a change. I called a good friend, told him what I did, and he asked, "Are they an older design Axis?"... I responded, "I don't know... how do you tell?" He replied, "Well, mine don't "turn", they have these "ribs" that you locate a snap-ring on to adjust the preload." I told him, "no... these turn..." I looked closer... And sure enough, as I was convincing him by phone that these turn, I noticed the "ribs" were "very horizontal", and to my stupidity, finally realized I was "in the wrong"...

"Wow... for how coarse these threads are this ring sure doesn't move much each turn!"
