    Default Bearing Carrier

I need to purchase a round housing carrier for my YFZ and have read that the tappered bearing carriers hold up a little better then the twin row. Any of you guys have expiriences with both or what your opinion is?

Do any of you guys know if us AZQUADS members get discounts at RPM or Lonestar? Nonetheless I need to get one soon so let me know who you recommend. Thanks

ok hear is what ive heard that tappered bearing are ok for side loads but they cause more friction which steal horsepower and if you do not have the proper preload on them they will wear out very fast, and i think even normally they wear fast then a dual row bearing carrier. i personally would run a dual row bearing carrier. i work for lonestar so give me a call on monday 1-800-457-7223 ext 202 or just send me a pm with what year you need and ill get you a price.

Does Lonestar make a conversion bearing carrier with tapered bearings? I always thought that was a trick from RPM. Anyway, I only run the tapered bearing conversions from RPM for motocross and off-road. Twin row is safe to put on the market for users that might not know how to properly adjust bearing tension (tapered bearings can't be run too tight or too loose), and that is why quads came from the factories with them. Good aftermarket front hubs use tapered bearings as well. Even though I have friends that work at Lonestar , I am a true RPM customer. Ask for Brad at RPM and tell him I sent you.....he will help you out.

tappered bearing are good for extreme loads(like 8k lbs) if you really feel you need that much strength on a quad. im not bashing either one i think they both have thier pro's and con's but from what i have heard and read is that if you dont have enough preload on the tappered bearings it can cause a wobble and too much will just steal horsepower(which is never good for me). plus i think you dont get as much chain adjustment with tappered bearings vs a twin row so if you make a lot of large gear changes you might have some trouble. plus the tappered carriers are more expensive. but you can maintain the tappered bearings easier and get more life out of them if you keep on top of them. kramar you gonna run the supermoto at the end of august?

If it means anything... I have a "twin row" on my 300EX that seems to still hold up fine, even though I don't run it nearly that much anymore.

On my 400EX and 450R, I run the "tapered"... But that is because of the benefits that I have heard. One negative on the tapered, is that I believe you lose a little bit of chain adjustability, but nothing that has affected me.

I could be wrong, but I believe the tapered bearings are to last a long... long time, especially if well lubricated, where the twin row bearings have a much shorted life span.

    Good luck...

I need to replace the Bearing Carrier on my son's '06 YFZ450, and was wondering what you ended up going with? My problem started with the axle getting too much side to side play and ended up with the sprocket hub eating into the carrier. The axle is sliding back and forth about 3/16" in the carrier. Probably from roosting berms I have been wondering if Tapered bearings would help solve the problem.
