Default 2010/2011 Dune Passes are avaliable

Be 'Ride Ready' and get your Dune Pass now! Sure you can get them at your local quad/buggy shop, but why not support those who fight to keeps the dunes open. Go to American Sand Association's site and get it there. $9 goes to ASA for legal expenses.

This has been a special announcement........

Hey Mike, why don't you post a little write-up here on everything a guy with a race bike needs to go to the dunes and not get hassled by the dune cops. I think a bunch of peeps on here would find it useful...

OK, here you go. Other duners can chime in if I stated things wrong or missed something.

    1. A dune pass. This can be a season pass for $90, as posted above, ($120 on site) or a week pass for $25, ($40 on site). Most quad & offroad shops carry the week passes. This is for your vehicle to park at the dunes. Even if you are not camping over night, or a buddy is driving out seperately, each vehicle needs one of these passes.

    2. Your quad needs one of the following: And they will check. CA needs the money.
------a. Arizona OHV plate/sticker (Trails only or limited road use)
------b. Arizona MC plate (plated for the road just like a bike, still not street legal in CA!!)
------c. California OHV sticker (CA's version of our OHV sticker) Again, most offroad shops have these too.

    3. Every vehicle out on the dunes needs a flag. Not in camp or vendor areas but anywhere considered out in the dunes. Rules state the tip of the flag needs to be at least 8ft off the ground. As long as it's above your head you should be fine. You can get these everywhere. Don't go out without one, then cruise up to the vendors on the quad to buy one. All they care about is you don't have one and you are riding on the sand.

    4. Lights: Riding during the day does not require a brake/tail light. Obviously if you plan to ride at night then you will need headlights and tails lights. Doesn't matter if the brake light works as long as you can be seen at night.

    5. Helmet. You can ride Squid Style, (no shirt, thong & flip flops) if you want, but you need a helmet. I have heard people have been ticketed just loading and unloading their quads. Obviously the ranger was being a dick, but be aware anyway.

    6. No double riding on a quad anywhere, even in camp, unless it is designed for two-up riding by the Mfg. IE. certain UTVs.

    7. If you haven't been to the dunes in awhile take a moment to visit ASA's site or Glamisdunes.com and read up on some of the rules and no ride areas. Two important ones to remember is:
........a. No glass containers on the sand anywhere. You can get away with it, though still illegal, by keeping glass inside the camper.
........b. No pallets or anything with nails/staples for the camp fire.
    The reasons should be clear.

    8. If you pack it in, pack it out. There are too many squids leaving crap when they leave. No burning of trash. And Sobe Bombs will cost a cool $1k fine!!

    9. You can be ticketed for no spark arrestor though this would most likely be and 'add-on' when they nail you for something else.
    10. Beer or money for as we always except donations for this valuable information.

I think that's it. If I missed something I will make the corrections so viewers don't need to read pages posts to get it all.

You forgot one thing that most of the race bikes don't have... Spark Arrestors are required I do not have one on either of my quads and have never been hasseled up to this point, I also do not hang out at the drags or hill all day and have not had one bad run in with the LEO's in many years.

also maybe some info on the speed limits, im not to familiar with glamis but i know at gordons the vendor arears are specifically marked 5mph, the "flats" or camping area (before u start going up the hill) is like 15mph, trust me u go flying thru there u will get pulled over, my first year there i lost a buddy and was trying to find him and i come flying thru in 4th gear and get pulled over luckily just a warning.

also if u plan on driving ur 4x4 truck to the drags you need a flag as well.

mike when did the sobe bomb rule come up? lol i dont think ive ever been to the dunes and not had someone in the camp do a couple! ill have to make sure they dont, last time my chair fell victim to their stupidity

Sobe Bomb Rule started getting enforced last year. You will still see them, but not nearly as many as you used to.

I wasn't trying to include every rule to go ride the dunes, just what riders with race quads might need and a few nice to know items. As always common sense is required, if not they get to deal with the powers that be.

And there is an edit button you post whore, LOL
