Default Speedworld GP summer series 2

Hey yall. I just thought I would start a new thread for the Summer GP since the other is deep with 13+ pages.

I'm glad I made it out. It (as always) was a blast.

I saw the last post about Trent. I'm glad to hear it wasn't more serious. It's always a bummer when one of us goes down, but Trent is one of our Hero's so keep us posted. How about the other guy. I heard he had a broken collar bone? Any word?

Great racing last night and a pretty good turn out. Any stories?

I can't explain the chitty feeling I had seeing those two down, and then with the helicopter landing and the second one circling around. I hope everyone has a speedy and complete recovery.
I thought for the most part the track was great! Jim and I had a heck of a drag race to the first turn. I think I actually prefer the outside line now! Later in the race Jim and I did some dicing on the Vet & Pee Wee tracks. It was good CLOSE racing and made the whole race 10X's more fun. Thanks Jim! And thanks for blowing that corner and going off the track allowing me to catch you . Congrats to all for making it another super fun race! Looking forward to the next one in two weeks.

Here is my update from last night.

The first that I knew something was wrong was when I was just coming off of the mini track section of the course and I saw a wheel go rolling by. Given my past year and having that very thing happen to me twice, the first thing I did was verify that I still had all four attached to my quad, the second thing I did was to look around and see where it came from, didn’t see anyone!

When I got back to our staging area, I learned from Katie that it was Trent’s wheel I had seen. Just before Marlin came in, Conrad had lost a wheel in the first turn and was knocked out in the middle of the track. That pretty much ended our evening as Katie stopped there to help with traffic, then Marlin and I went to see if we could assist, Katie did eventually finish her lap. When Conrad was getting up, talking and seemed to be mobile, I went over to where Trent was to let them know that Conrad was moving on his own.

They were just strapping Trent down to the board (which he later confided to me that he really enjoyed being strapped to the board…wait, no, he said it was a most painful experience, I just assumed he enjoyed the pain…whatever). Trent didn’t have much to say, didn’t really seem to be able to put thoughts together. Warning, just because someone seems to be out of it, doesn’t mean they don’t remember what was said! He does recall being told he needs to lose weight and his socks need to be changed ‘cause they stank.

Apparently Trent broke his axle going over the big jump, it was not the threaded part, but just to the inside of the threads where the axle tapers down. Someone mentioned that it looked as if there had been a crack there already judging by some oxidation on the sheared surface. Immediately after breaking his axle, it looks like Trent decided an axle wasn’t enough so he also broke his steering stem. Not bent…broke. Not at the steering stem bearing, but up close to the bar where it was gusseted. VERY impressive.

This all warranted a ride to the hospital via helicopter. He went to John C. Lincoln North at 3rd Street and Dunlap in Phoenix. I was told it was at 19th and Dunlap, it wasn’t there. I kept going down Dunlap on my way home when there appears the hospital so I turn in to see if Trent was there. Sure enough, they had him in the trauma room. I guess enough time had passed that his wits had returned and he was able to carry on a good conversation.

Damage Report: I left before all results were in. He had his knee stitched up, he had a cut under his left eye that was patched, his left shoulder was not right…don’t know what all is going on there, he has several fractures in his back and he had mentioned pain in his chest when he was back at the track. Yeah, he worked himself over pretty good. They had just returned him from doing a Cat scan of his head due to all the bruising on his face. Don’t know the results of that yet either. His helmet is trashed though as it has a very visible impact point on it.

Enjoy the pics I took while Trent couldn’t do anything about it

I’ll give an update later unless someone else beats me to it.

    Alex

PS. I can't upload the pics, don't know how to delete some of the ones I have up to make room for the new ones, I'll create a page on my site www.wickedal.com/trent in a few minutes to post the pics.

Wow... Thanks for the update Al. At least Trent was well enough to let you take pictures! Or, it could have been the amount of drugs he was on that made that decision! Any idea what room he is in? May swing out to see him.

    Quick update.

Just spoke to his Mom, he is in room 540, the hospital number is 602 943-2381. He is sleeping so if you call right now you'll get his Mom. He broke or fractured his shoulder, the doctor doing that hasn't spoken to them yet to give to final call on it. Trent will be in a back brace for a couple of month and that seems to be the worst of it as the scans of his head came back clean. He'll probably be recuperating most of the day, (read "sleeping") Sunday may be a better day to drop in if you are planning that.

This should in no way prevent anyone from poking fun at him. I will be happy to add pics of his quad to his page on my site along with any comments.

Needless to say Trent will not be racing Snowflake unless he motorizes his back brace

    Alex

I don't know what the final prognosis was on Conrad (AZ440ex), I do know he had a three wheeler when all was said and done, don't know any particulars. He was out cold for about a minute. When he came to, it wasn't a whole lot longer when we was having a coherent conversation. He ended up walking off of the track, the other helicopter was canceled. He was looking beat up pretty good too, I hope he recovers quickly! All of that and he has a long ride to Tucson to get home.

Yeah Kenny, those two laps were hella good fun man! Thought I might actually beat ya to the first corner! At least I made ya sweat a little!
And your welcome for the blown corner. I was bent, but it did make for closer racing!!

Absolutely! I'm very serious about fun.

Think about it. If your day consists of hanging around in bed all day, trying to cope with the pain and being bored out of your skull as various nurses and doctors cycle through the door. Would you rather have a bunch of guys come in all somber faced and tell you how bad they feel that you wrecked your quad and beat up your body? Or would you rather have a bunch of guys come in and rib you about trying to clear two table tops in one jump, or having enough consideration for everyone else that you decided to break your quad and take a nap by the side of the track to let everyone else catch up?

I'm not talking about being mean, I'm talking about humor and lifting spirits. Laughter IS the best medicine. There's enough naysayers and negativity going around about why do people even race quads, the expense, the risk etc, yes, I am serious about poking fun. In fact, I feel it's pretty much mandatory

Accidents aside. I had a blast out there! I can't wait for the next one on the 11th (or 10th).

My desert quad had a heck of a time negotiating the corners, but it sure was a cush ride! Those 22" marshmallows I ride on sure helped with the cush part. Good news is that I could land flat off of some of those jumps and it would take it all. Bad news is somewhere along the line I lost my battery connection. When it came my turn to go...no go Marlin helped me pull start it and as long as I didn't kill the motor, it ran just fine after that.

Thanks to Wicked Kat (Katie) and Wicked Fish (Marlin) for inviting me on their team, it was tons 'o fun!

    Alex

PS. To whoever it was that passed me just prior to going into the International track, sorry about going all over the track, that quad is a handful in the corners, it wasn't intentional.
