Default Whiplash Cinder's Race Sunday 8/8

    Hi all!

Ok, I'm heading up to the Cinders this weekend for the Whiplash race on Sunday and would appreciate some help! I have never been there so if anyone has directions and a good estimate on drive time (not towing) I'd appreciate the info.

I'll be heading up early Sunday morning to make it in time for tech inspection and prep. Thanks!

17 to flag, go east on the 40 and get off like 3rd exit for 89. Take left off exit, and turn right onto 89 at like 3rd set of lights. You will go by the "Mall" and safeway etc. Maybe 10 miles down the road on the right hand side (once you pass the Chevron on the left hand side) there's a little 3ft x 2ft (if that) sign that says CINDERS OHV park. The turn is right after that, onto a washboard rd. Follow that back in and you'll find Whiplash.

Without traffic and not towing...2.5 hrs? depending on how fast you drive.

    Thanks!

Just got an update from them by email as well about the entrance to the OHV area. Here's what it says:

"Conditions beyond our control caused the Forest Service to close THE WORLDS WORST ROAD!

For those of you who have not enjoyed the RUTTED, ROUGH, POTHOLED undeclared DISASTER AREA section of Forest Road 776 that connects Hwy 89 to our pit area / race headquarters in years past, you will not enjoy the GLEE I'm about to share with you. For those of you who have, check this out!!!

For this race, we will use the SUNSET CRATER access road (F.S. road 545) that is about 3½ miles North of the usual Cinders Entrance. The road is SMOOOOOOOTH and PAVED. The Forest Service people that man the pay station about 2 miles from Hwy 89 will let you pass at NO CHARGE if you tell them you are headed to our race. Drive another 41/2 miles to the North end of F.S. Road 776 and turn right on the dirt road.

Our Race HQ will be about ½ mile up 776.

    BE ADVISED

There is NO CAMPING ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF 776 and YOU HAVE TO STAY OUT of the SUNSET CRATER PARK with your OHV's. We are only being allowed to use that road for access to our race. If you want to visit the park you will need to pay the fees associated with it.

Camp fires will be OK but PUT THEM OUT COMPLETELY when leaving your camp area, if you can't DON'T LIGHT THEM.

    Katie,
    You're in AJ right?
I think you should plan on 3-3 1/2 hours to the cinders.

Well you see, it's like this....I'm making the trip WITHOUT a cop in the truck this time sooooo I can let the lead out. So if you see a puuurdy black F-250 haulin' azz up the hill might I suggest that ya'll move over to the right lane. Just sayin.....

I'll be leaving at 5am in case anyone wants to draft.
