    Default quad only dirt section

apparently mh supermoto track in tucson wants to build a quad only dirt section. if you havent been down there yet the dirt section they have right now isnt bad but it is a little too narrow for two quads to run side by side comfortably and there are burms in the corner for motorcycles. they want me to help them design the dirt section so i wanted to get everyone's input on what they would like to see in the dirt section. do you want whoops, doubles, table tops, big banked corners or a high speed section with small jumps and split lane passing? give me your input so i can pass this along to them. also if anybody hasnt been down there you should really give it a try. definetly the most fun you will have on a quad.

I was down there last weekend. Got a lot of good practice in but wasn't able to hit the dirt section very much because there was no watering and I was kicking up a lot of dust and it was becoming unsafe for the rest of the track and riders.

Anyways, I think it would be cool to have a split lane. I think it would also be cool to have a whoop/small double rythm section. Banked turns are good but they can't be as big as the current ones on the current track, something more flat and longer (sweeper) to carry in more speed for a slide. I don't know about everyone else but I seem to bottom out on the face of the tables at the current track, so a longer face and a bigger lip to get our fat hogs in the air. Those speed bumps are annoying but good practice.

The faster the better but the most important part is having smooth, flowing transitions from asphalt to dirt and dirt to asphalt.

Unfortunately, until I get shortened shocks (or standard travel), I haven't had a chance to get down to the mh supermoto track in Tucson. So, on that note, the only thing I can comment on is what I like and don't like about the dirt section at the Stateline races. I don't know if that helps or not, but I can say I always enjoyed the dirt section Marche put together. All the jumps were doable on a quad. The only part I didn't like was the supercross-style whoops. I just didn't like trying to stay on top of those with an anti-sway bar. I like something challenging in the dirt section to separate riders, a good double or triple is better then all tabletops. Berms are good, but a flat turn will also take more skill (throttle control) and help separate riders. A rhythm section is always fun and gives you something to try different combos on. Anything that doesn't bottom out a quad is a thumbs up. Hope this helps.

Bobby- I don't know if it is still there, or if one can get to it, but on the west side of the drag strip at Speedworld there is a small dirt section we used for a supermoto race years ago. I remember that section was a BLAST. It was tight, but has several fun doubles and tables. Probably viewable still with GoogleEarth. It is between the drag strip and the LARGE oval track. Might be something to go look at next time you are at Speedworld for some ideas.

Where do they plan on putting the dirt section? I think last time they were talking about putting in the circle here.

kramer you should just give it a try. you setup wont work too bad. shoot i run my bike at almost 8" off the ground and it bottoms out everywhere. i dont know where they plan on putting the dirt section but there does look like a good spot. im thinking they need a dirt section that is fun but doable for begginers as well. no jumps that you have to clear and maybe a small whoop section, but nothing like stateline. i would like something fast and something that we can still run a lower quad on that way we can stay fast on the asphalt. probably would be a good idea to have a small jump onto the asphalt so it keeps a lot of the dirt off the asphalt.

shoot were doing a 200ft tripple, and only you have to clear it. i guess they are going to start working on it monday. they are putting it on the south side of the track just after the s turn. there is going to be a small (no supercross style) whoop section, a small double, a step up table that is going to drop down after and go into a deep bowl corner, that is pretty much all we discussed. everything will be doable for beginner riders and you wont have to clear anything.
