Default Suggestions on shipping an engine

I need to ship my motor to Florida and I'm looking for the best way to do it. One place said to use a plastic tote but I've also heard of people using coolers. Anyone here done it before? What do you recommend and what shipping service?

I've had motors shipped to me both ways. The tote was much larger than the engine and had a lot of foam, cardboard & newspaper as packing. Probably needed all that because the totes are very thin and not very strong. the cooler was just slightly larger than the engine and didn't need much packing material at all. I'd use an old cooler I had lying around. If you had to go out and buy one I'd do the tote because they're much less than a cooler.

What shipping service did you find was most affordable?

I tried to find a "Roughneck" tote last night but all I could find was 18gal (too small) and like 34gal (way too big). Website said 22gal was the perfect size.

My LTR engine that came from ATP engines was shipped in a plastic tote from walmart. Was around 100 bucks to ship with insurance. I was warped in bubble wrap and cardboard. They told me they nomarlly ship them in the foam coolers you can get at walmart as long as the engine fits in it.

I read an article in QUAD magazine once about using a cooler. They seemed to prefer that...

We were using an ice chest to ship back and forth to Walsh. It made many trips with no problem, except eventually the wheels fell off. A freakin ice chest wont even stay together for us! UPS was about $100.00 from Safford and it was 4 day shipping.

I snagged a Rubbermaid Rough Neck tote at Walmart for $8. I'm going to follow this procedure - http://www.ctracing.com/shipping_instructions.htm
