    Default Go Pro Helmet camera

I was wondering if any of you are using a Go Pro Helmet camera and how do you like it? Can you play back what you have recorded on the camera or does it have to be downloaded only to find out you had it at the wrong angle the whole time ?

You can hook the camera to a computer or tv for playback, but it does not have a playback screen on the camera. It's a 170 degree wide angle, pretty hard not to get good footage. Mine has been great.

Adrian just posted some video on this link

I love my go pro, it helps if you have someone else that can look at how its angled on your helmet after you've put it on, but havent had a problem with it being the wrong angle yet.

It uses a basic sandisk, just pop it in your computer and watch it, but like az440ex said it doesn't have a playback screen on the camera.

The quality isn't HD but its definitely better than previous helmet cams we've used and it comes with a ton of different mounts, its been put on the side of a ranger and mobbed around a road course with the suction cup mount and it didn't come off, just be careful with using the suction cup mount on bike plastics it doesn't hold quite as well as we found out, fell off the bike during a jump and broke the plastic cases' mount but go pro happily replaced it no questions asked.

Coolest part so far besides the 170 degree camera vision is that it blacks out the sun, You can point the camera directly at the sun and you can still see everything around it, compared to many cameras that just white out.

Sounds like an awesome little camera...

I have a Twenty20 camera now and it's time to replace my recording device and it looks like I can replace the whole system with the simpler Go Pro camera for around the same money.

    Thanks for the imput guys

Thought I would bring this thread back to the top...My birthday will be here soon and I am thinking about getting myself a Go Pro. I started to look online for the best deals and there are like 5 different ones. Which one do I get and computer software/requirements do I need?

I think Costco has one for $170, just one version down from their top of the line camera. I got it for Christmas I need a second one for another POV and slow mo (then a third one......) If you want to edit the videos, do a search to find video editing software. It doesn't need anything else to view it on your PC.

I'm going to try a chin mount off of my helmet instead of the top so you can see all of the handlebar action. I thikn that will give a better sense of the battle between man and machine that way...we'll see!

Be sure to get the HD version. I havent been to their site lately and they might not even carry the non-HD anymore I don't know. They also have, or will have shortly a small display that plugs into the back for quick viewing and setup.

Quicktime will play the vids, Windows Media Player needs a codec installed.

HD editing software will depend on your PC/Laptop whether its PC or MAC. The HD clips are MP4 format. To edit in full HD you need a PC with some horsepower and the right software. There are many threads on the topic and the proper software is not always cheap. Though I think QuickTime Pro will edit HD video and isnt priced too bad. Another is Serif MoviePlus X5 HD. Then you move to the higher end editing software costing hundreds, but they can do so much more. You will notice that many say they just convert the clip to this format their software can handle, throw it in their editing software and maybe convert it back. The problem is you need to be careful on how you convert it and what you convert it too. Many times you loose the HD, which is the biggest reason to buy the camera anyway.

I beat you to it Alex. Check out my mount. I probably should have patented it. It does give a better view angle because it closer to your eye's line of site. The vids look 'almost' as if you're actually riding the bike/quad.

    Very nice Mike!

But now that you've shown me the pictures, I can rip off your design and make millions...bwhahahahahahaha!

Patent, just gives someone the right to sue you. Best design defense is first mover advantage.

I'll have to give it some thought and come up with the $149 version

I use a contour HD helmet cam and I prefer it because of the goggle strap mount. Makes it simple to swap the camera between friends because it slips onto any goggles.
I set mine up once and marked it with a marker so now everytime I snap the camera into the mount it is at the correct angle.
