Default BCS Shift Pin Relocator - DONT BUY IT

Alright, heres the story, I put the BCS Shift Pin Relocator bracket in my 06LTR in February 2010, broke my 3rd gear in June 2010, Kelly at KMS took my 3rd gear to a shop and asked them to tell him why the gear failed, they soaked it in dye and examined it through a microscope and determined that it was low oil pressure in the transmission. The BCS Shift Pin removes the kicker bushing which is a big problem.

I brought this problem to the attention of BCS and they said it's not their problem. Kelly at KMS documented the issues and here it is.

And BTW, Kelly at KMS is in the process of designing a Shift Pin Relocator that will actually work and not cause any more problems. AND, the profit from the sales of the Shift Pin Relocator will be used as part of the "Help BucknAZ get his bike back on the track" fund. I'm also hearing that it will be cheaper than the BCS part but don't quote me on that. Here is the documentation that Kelly at KMS gave me...

Here is the letter that Kelly Wrote for me:

And this is the piece of poopoo product that BCS is selling on their website right now so if you purchased this product, send it back or take it out of your engine before it does damage to your engine.

I'm not sure if it makes any difference but when I sent BCS a letter giving them the opportunity to make right on this situation, this is the reply...

Basically, BCS is stating that it's cheaper for them to run a batch of Shift Pins on a single plate of aluminum than it is to make the part right. At least that is what they are telling the people that made the shift pin installation videos.

and as to that letter why thell would they be changing it if nothing was wrong with it to begin with it? Di you show them the letter KMS sent you? Hope it all works out... lucky it coulda been worse i guess

The 3rd gear problem is there. 95% of LTR owners now this
If you don't you need to check around and read up on it.

It may have not happened to you. but I can put money on it it will at one point.

Sorry to hear about this Buck. Hope it all goes back together soon for you

The interesting part is that 1/2 the people I asked about the 3rd gear breaking had the Shift Pin installed.

I don't hear too many people complaining of broken stock shift pins.

Pro-ATV is hooking me up w/ a good deal on my shopping list, gonna do the clutch and new rings while I'm in there.

From my understanding the poopoo pin relocator had nothing to do with the 3rd gear failures

The shift pin was to reduce the case from cracking where the stock pin was located on the left case. When you jump and land peoples feet would land on the shifter and can crack the case. the shift "pin" relocator was the fix/repair for this.. this is from my understanding.
Both my LTR's had the shift pin installed from FuelATV

Yeah, and how did those trannys hold up? LOL!!!

I don't land with my foot on the shifter. I'm leaving mine alone. I ain't fixing what ain't broke...

Sorry to hear about your issues Buck but I might as well add my $.02.

I bought and installed one of these three years ago this month from Fuel ATV and never had any significant issues that I know of. I've done 40+ races on my '07 including 3 endurance races which were over 10 hours cumulative and I probably have that many practices on it as well.

My transmission is starting to feel like it is wearing but that is not unexpected given the numbers above but it still works fine, although I don't have anything to compare it to since I've never riden a completely stock LTR. I suppose the only potential problem is on holeshots it routinely didn't want to shift from 3rd to 4th I believe but I have occasional issues on the Honda also. One of the key things in my mind is that I only have an intake, pipe, and controller. In other words, I've heard that with built motors the 3rd gear issue is more prevalent but I can't say whether this was related to the shift pin kit or not as I've never researched the interaction. I have talked to a couple engine builders and everyone does say how weak the LTR transmission is compared to other makes and I have heard from several other riders that it is definitely a problem area.

Regardless, I'm not calling anybody right or wrong but my personal experience with it has been okay. The only gripe I had at the time was that the included instructions were terrible, but nothing that a little forum searching couldn't cure. That and they said it installs in 45 minutes but it took me probably 3 - 4 hours.

Good information though. Next time I change the oil, perhaps I'll pull the engine cover and clutch to inspect mine to see if there are similar signs of play or wear as now I am certainly curious.

Hope to see you back on the track soon.

I had the BCS on my 06 that I raced for 3 years of hard desert racing and never had a problem. I have the Fuel relocater on my current 07...

from what I've read on forums, it's hit and miss with the trannies on the LTR's, some people have no problems and some have disasters and HATE them... Sorry you are having major issues with yours Buck, I sure the hell hope they can get this solved...
