    Default Stroker crank

Has anyone had any experience with these. I am looking at a hot rods +3mm stroker crank for my 05 trx 450, I will soon replace the main bearing so for a little bit more I could upgrade the crank. This would give me a little bit more horsepower across the board. I have a HC stage 2, cp 12:1 piston, DASA full exhaust. I would consider a bit of porting to go along with this as well. I have read a ton on the crank, but was wondering if any here had one or knew of someone with a stroker.

This is a late winter mod so I am just researching for now.

A guy on another board is going to the dunes with us for halloween and has an '05 with the +3 crank. He just did the build so I'll see first hand how it runs against my new build. He should beat me but he also weighs more so we'll see. It'll make you a 471cc and I've heard they run really well. I think you would definitely get a huge increase with the crank+porting over just the crank IMO. I'm in the same boat right now. I'm tossed as to what I want to do while the motor's apart.

Well as i said i am researching info and found some really good things on the stroker, +3 seemed to be the most effective for stock bore. The reliability is pretty strong as well. ALthough I did find some info on the big bore with a stroker did not work out so well, or least the reliability is hit and miss. Not sure of what I will do, but I do know that the bearings will be replaced and am really leaning towards the stroker. Worst case I could add the stroker and get it ported later, hope not but if money is tight that may be the option.

Let me know how that storker does, thanks.

After my experience today down at Racers Edge in Tucson, I'd say just skip the stroker all together and use that money to have them port your head and do a valve job. They were able to pull gobs of power out of my already hacked up head on my 05 TRX (posting thread shortly).

I've never been a fan of short rod strokers. If you went with an aftermarket cylinder and could keep a rod close to the stock length, I'd say go for it. But then you're talking big bucks.

Well my initial idea (now that I am a fan of KMS performance shop) was to run it over to Kelly and get some input. Once that was settled I would then have KMS do the work. Still planning on a late winter time, but still doing research. Any particular reasons why you do not like the stroker cranks? Just wondering is all, from what I have read and heard, the +3 on the 05 is working really well with excellent reliability.

Feel free to give us a shout. We actually do all of Kellys Rhino heads, and one of his Honda heads is here now.

Oh, do not worry Jeremy. I have been reading more and more about the stroker issue and the porting would probably be the best option. Was just wondering how it performed. Briefly spoke to Morgan and am pretty convinced by statements made here and other places in regards to the shop for porting. Just have to wait till early spring to do it.
