    Default TRX 450R jetting

I just bought a trx450 and the carb is really far off. its really hard to start. it needs to be jetted. i put a 182 main and a 50pilot in and it is a little easier to start but back fires when you let off the gas. and suggestions it does have an HST (holeshot tech) full pipe on it.

What year is the bike? Huge difference between 04-05 and 06+ due to carbs adn some other things. If it's backfiring when you let off the gas that is a good indication that the pilot is lean. How many turns out of on the A/F mixture screw are you??

First of all... I am no expert at "carb settings" or "jetting"... But being here in the Valley, the 50 pilot size sounds noticeably higher than my mine... And since you are up in Flagstaff, where you would want more air than fuel, I would think that is especially high for a "pilot jet".

I am thinking if your pilot jet is too high, that will definetely make it harder to start. If you have your stock pilot, I would put that back in. (I think stock is a 38 or 40... but not sure).

NOTE: The 182 main jet sounds okay.

Oh... Be sure to stay up on your valves too on your 450R!

    Good luck!

182 is ok if it's an 04-05, if it's an 06+ then a 182 is WAAAAY too big. It really depends on the year on these which way to go for jetting.

I was just up in flag this weedend.. i jetted my 05 down to a 160 on the main. I think you are way too big at 182. I don't have an HST, i run a yoshi with no air box lid.

Your jetting should be pretty close as long as you are running without an air box lid. How many turns out on the air fuel screw are you? Do you have the stock needle in there? If you do I would get rid of it and get a hold of the needle that comes in the HRC kit for the 04, it is a must have especially once you pull the airbox lid, regardless the needle should be on the 3rd clip down from the top. You did use Keihin jets didn't you? The Dynojet kits are crap adn ther jet size differs from the Keihin. Teh 50 pilot jet may be a bit to much, it all really depends on how many turns out the A/F screw is. Have you checked the valve clearance??
