Don't you still have the head form your old motor? Grab a new head gasket and slap that on there!

Sounds like somebody needs to take better care of their air filter!

Never heard of "lack of air" causing valve problems....that is how stock engines are shipped from the factory ... all bottled up and no power.

I will say fine dirt and/or sand getting past your air filter will cause your valves to wear super fast..... as well as riding on the rev limiter.

The more motor work you put into a race motor, the more work you will have to do to maintain that power. Hence why Byrd gets 12 motors a year, one motor for each ATVA race. They are basically disposable. Never a good idea to "over build" your motor for the type of racing/riding and/or your skill level.... unless you want a money pit you will work on more than you ride.

Brent - No offense, just a friendly suggestion, but put your stock head back on and ride ride ride. A novice level rider doesn't need a stage 3 motor. There are so many things to learn as a new ATV rider, and it can all be done on a stock engine with the basics (no air box lid, better air filter, and a new exhaust). I'd hate to see you lose interest in the sport due to constant motor issues. Unfortunately, I've seen it happen before.

    no offense taken..
I ended up with this engine due to mine coming apart. I didn't really want a stage 3 engie but for the price people were asking for stock ones. I might as well have gotten this one. When i got it i was told i got a fresh top end. Thing about that is. I am not sure what they define a fresh top end. I thought of it as a new pistion/jug/head check or service.. All i got was a fresh jug new plate and a new stock pistion. I wanted stock compression so i could run spump gas. really the only thing to the engine yoshi stage wise is a stage 2 head job. port/polish and cams.( The stage 3 is just a tranny serice. which i had redone at ATP and race cut. The valves (INT) do seem larger but i have to wait and see after it gets checked. I have already installed the stock head and only installing the yoshi INT cam for the top end. the exh cam made me lose the lowe end/ stock EXH cam going back in tonight when i get home and put the 2.40 shim in lost.

but yes.. I just want to ride it, at the rate i am going i may not even get to do any more races. i may just do practice on wed nights and have fun
