    Default Really stiff clutch

Hi all i have an 06 Z400 and the clutch is rediculously stiff, so here is my problem..... yesterday i cleaned and lubed my cable for half an hour, still no help. I know the cable is routed right, and that it is adjusted right. So tonight i went and took off the clutch cover and the basket, and took the rod out that goes in the middle cause my friend with his CR250 had that problem, so i went and pulled that out and it was perfectly fine, All i achieved was ripping the gasket. Tomorrow i am going to take other side off and look at the part the cable pulls on. If that aint it what else could it be. O and one last thing, when i took off my basket a few plates came off, is the very last plate offset to the others? Any help is better than none so thanks all who reply. And if what i think is broke is alright too, i am taking it into a shop i am not sure what one yet

there is a chance it is still your clutch cable. There is a plastic sleeve inside that the cable is surrounded by, when the cable wears thru that, you have to replace it. 90% of the bikes we get in for a problem like yours ends up being the cable. I can have a new cable in a day if I don't already have one in stock.

Yes the last friction clutch plate that you put in is offset from the others.

There was a thread on another forum on changing the clutch on the 400. It stated the last plate didnt have to be off-set. Mine wasnt when I changed it out, nor is it since I put it back together. Have you checked the torque on the springs? If its really stiff Id say maybe you cranked the springs down a little too much and its really difficult to open all of the plates when the lever is grabbed?

no the springs arent on too tight, and it may be my cable but i am thinking it is something else, how fast can cables be worn out cause mine right now has 2 dune trips and like to rides at the track? So if they can wear out that fast i am open to try another one... thanks all and DFR i will be getting in touch with you if i have a sale on my a arms go through tonight
