Default Motor Build for 07 Honda 450R- Novice Rider

"Mainly for Morgan AT Racers Edge, But any help from you guys is appreciated."
    -Vince

    Hey Morgan,

My name is Vince Santagata. im from Buckeye, AZ.
I ride the 4-Stroke Novice and Open Novice in both the ITP and Speedworld QX Series' and have been racing quads the last two years.

I had some questions regarding motor work.
Does a Novice/ Intermediate Rider needs motor work done?

What kind of motor work would be helpful if I Choose to go this route?

I found a builder called Rossier Engineering

    http://www.rossiereng.com/products.php?category=400200

Do you know if they are a decent builder?
I heard they were good, as well as you guys but I don't know about sending my motor across the country.

They said 50HP is possible out of the 07 Honda w a pipe, Jet kit, Air filter, and Camshaft.
    Is this true?

looking at some of their mods they run like this:

    3 HP Head Porting $325
    5 HP Head Porting $450
    Hotcams Stage 2 Cam $160
    Hi Comp Piston 14:0:1 $250

Are these prices comparable to you guys?
What would you charge for these parts and to Install/ Tune them?

What Octane of race gas would I have to use?

The race fuel thing is new to me. Really, all I know is that it cost more then Pump Gas. lol

Would you be able to Dyno Tune and rejet my bike?
I just have their complete Exhaust system and a jet kit w the airbox lid off but I know its more then likely not Spot on as they would say.

I've heard these Honda's have a lot of potential so I'd like to stick with them.
I did pretty well on the 80's w a stock motor.

Any help is greatly appreciated as I have 2 more races with this stock bike of mine. Then I'd like to Mod it out and maybe do one more year in the Novice or Move up to the Intermediate with a decent built bike.

Vince, if your wanting to stay novice for a bit, jets, pipe and cam with a good intake is where you want to be, and yes, get it dyno tuned to get the most out of it, still on pump gas, also, you may look at going down a tooth on your drive sprocket, seems most of the MXers run that way.

--now, pop up to the 13.5 or 14-1 pistons, and race gas along with new jets and tuning, and your in a whole diff. class of power.
another option in enjine building is ATP racing.

    just my .02
i would bet Morgan has a little more to add.

well here is my question are you using your motor to its fullest potential now?
If you are then mods will help, even if you not some of the simpler bolt on mods may still help a little. But I would say suspension mods would be your better bet. up grade your shocks or buy new, a arms etc. you can have all the power in the world it will be great on the flat straits. but if you can`t get it through the corners and the whoops. your going to be just as fast as you were. Just a pipe alone will wake up a lot of these motors with the propper jetting. If you looking to improve lap times, you need to look at what is limiting you. Is it power or is it suspension and improve that area first.

Yes I also say do your suspension first! I raced my LTR bone stock for a long time. Then set up my suspesion and now I have a slip on pipe, programmer, intake, and and intake hot cam with the stock exhaust cam retarded 5 deg. And I have enough power to with the Arizona Quadcross Series! And in my opinion it is better to slowly get more and more power. Don't do it all at once because you will have a very fast quad and not have the rider ability to ride it to its full potential! So that is what I would suggest! I'm not sure what mods you currently have but If it was me I would add a pipe, intake, jets, and maybe some cams! But only add the cams if you are riding the quad with all the motors power being used!

Yea I would definately get the suspension setup before motor. I race the ITP Quadcross in the 2&4 Stroke expert class with a stock motor and have no problem keeping up with the front of the pack on my ltr 450. All I have is a pipe, programer and intake. You shouldn't need more motor for a while. In reality riding without a race motor makes you a better rider. you will learn to push your motor to its full potential.

    Thanks Dillion and Alan.
I think I know what direction to go in now.
The only question is... What kinda suspension am i looking for?
I bought the LSR Axle, Alba +2 A-arms and Elka Shocks for the fronts.
there the ELka Race Shocks w/o the res units.

is there a surperior suspension set up out there for the honda?
I heard if u go LSR Long Travel DC4 W Fox Shocks all around then thats a dang good setup. But it was pricey when I added it all up...

Oh and for the motor I only have the following:

    Rossier Eng Full Exhaust.
    jet kit. (came w it)

I agree w Dillion on the motor. Its not the motor thats holding me back. its the suspension. I can get a jump on most people but eveyone has always out cornered and out jumped me. They know I have to take the wide lines bc im not as wide and suspended as them.
The pipe woke it up. but I think the suspension would give me more confidence on the track.
    Lol.
Thats why I didnt go to COmp Edge this weekend.
Gotta put the front end on and dial it in.
Maybe next month at GH for the final round.
i did finish 6th O'A in the 4-stroke Novice Class for the SWQX.

I only made it to my 6 rounds though...

    I will:

    Take the airbox lid off
    green wire rev mod
    Air filter. K&N
have it Tuned/ Rejetted to be spot on.

Maybe.... do the cam if I mite need it.

    Thanks guys. Your the best.

Yea the lonestar dc-4 long travel arms with the fox evol shocks is the top of the line setup, But if you are looking for a cheaper alternative I would say look into the I-shock front end kits. I am sponsored by them and I will be running their new long travel kit on my ltr450 this year. I would recomend the package with the F-8 shocks. I think it runs around $1800 for the whole kit with arms, shocks, brake lines, and covers. The shocks are fully adjustable tripple rate shocks with resivoirs.

ya but for a novice rider I think you'll like the setup you already purchased! I mean my LTR only has a spring kit with new valves in the springs, and i think I'm doing ok! Hey dillon can you PM the information on your setup! I am thinking about some good front suspension, I was looking at laeger but 1800 with shocks sounds alot better than 2400 without shocks!!!!!
