Default YFZ Owners---Question on Timing Mod

My brother has an '08 YFZ450, and we did the cam mod (turn exhaust cam one tooth). We had '04 YFZ450s back in the day, so we were pretty familiar with the "operation."

We also printed some directions on a website

Well, after getting my brother's 08 back together, the quad wouldn't even start. We switched it back over to stock, and it started right up. We tried the cam mod again and nothing.

So my question, are the '08s different? Do they need the cam mod? WTF?

Oh and does any one have a spare timing chain tensioner? The tensioner bolt broke off on my brothers. Need one for this weekend.

I was just at Champion Honda and they have a chain tensioner for an '08 YFZ in stock, (according to the counter guy). Everything but the two smaller bolts that fasten it to the case.

Be sure to call/go to the right one, In Mesa.

i dont know if you figured it out yet. but i am fairly certain the mod IS NOT DONE from the factory. They are DE-TUNED to make the throttle response less abrupt then the bikes are. I DONT KNOW WHY THEY DID THIS, ITS DUMB TO ME! lol

Are you sure the cam is ony 1 tooth turned? does it crank? this may sound dumb too, but are you sure the correct cam was adjusted? I did this mod on my '0 and had no problem and was completed in garage at house in about 40 min.

Like to know what you found out was wrong.....

I have an 07, and had to do the mod to mine... At the very least I'd call a reputable dealer, and ask their service dept.

Well, after my brother and dad attempted it a couple more times they just brought it back to stock. It's not my quad so I wasn't too worried about it, and I doubt my brother called anyone. We did it just how we did it on our '04s, exhaust cam one tooth clockwise. On the '08, it would turn over, back fire a couple of times, and nothing.

Does anyone else have an '08? I am going to find out for myself here soon and let you guys know.
