Default 05 Polaris 800 intermittent engine problems

my 800 polaris sportsman will be running strong, I shut it off for a few minutes and when I start it, it will hardly run. Almost like it's only running on a couple cylinders. So I shut it off and wait and after doing this several times it starts back strong with no misses and a lot of power.

I had it in a shop, replaced spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter etc. Of course it won't act up in the shop.

    ANY IDEAS??????????

When it's acting up, have you pulled the spark plugs and see if they're fouled? "running on two cylinders", how many does that thing have? Could be the ignition module going into a hot soak or otherproblems. just my $.02

I haven't tried pulling the plugs, but they are new and When I shut off the machine for a while it usually starts back and will run strong for a long time.

Maybe the ignition module is "going into a hot soak" but I am not sure what that means or how to trouble shoot it.

    Thanks

I had the same symptoms on my Outlaw. I did everything you did. Changed the module and have never had any problems since.

Hot soak means that when you shut off, be it a bike, quad, car or truck, the temp of the engine will raise slightly, or substantially, due to lack of air /coolant circulation. I've seen this alot in older cars. Wen you shut them off, the ign. module will either quit working or work poorly due to the temp rise under the hood. This can happen on a quad also due to the positioning of the module or current requirements. hope this helps. Let us know what you find out.
