it was this past weekend at sycamore creek, the wash is flooded and mostly shallow, I saw everyone crossing it, the place where I crossed, was deeper than I thought, my whole back end sank, and ended up sucking in water through my open air box...
didn't even attempt to start it, I knew my box was flooded, luckily for me, my buddy was riding his buggy, and I had my tool bag with him, stood the quad straight up, removed the air box, removed the spark plugs, let the whole thing drain out, and set it back down, and proceeded to kick it, for about 30 minutes...and I mean not literally kick it, but pump the kick start to remove the remaining water, and YAY FOR STARTING FLUID SPRAYS! after about 15 minutes of trying to start it, it finally fired back up, and purred like a kitten, while spitting the remaining water out of the exhaust.....lol... it actually ran fine, we started a fire and I dried out my filters, put them back on, and it ran like it was never flooded...
we ended up meeting up with a bunch of other friends who have banshees and more mechanically inclined than I, most told me it would be fine, 1 told me I should rebuild the engine. another said my pistons are rusted, All I did when I got home was sprayed wd40 in the cylinder walls through the spark plug holes to prevent moisture.
I want to make sure my bike runs the next time I take it out,
as far as it being flooded, what are the damages that are possible? Even though it started up fine and ran without any problems the rest of the day, I just want to see what I need to do, and hope no damage occurs while it just sits till I ride it next.
