Doh! Forgot to do that didn't I? I'll get some up shortly.

As far as voiding warranties, I have not read anything about that. I guess I don't see how it can be detrimental to engine operation. The only thing that can possibly change would by slight jetting adjustments in some circumstances. Can you post the op ed you have?

Scott, did you by chance take temp readings with wrap & with coating? I forgot to, but just by feel it is noticeably cooler with wrap than without. Just wondering the difference between wrap & coating.

I tried to take readings with just wrap but they were wildly inconsistent. Before I took the pipe off I unwrapped it and started the quad and let it run until the fan cycled then I took the temp of the pipe at the bend and had about 530 degrees, with the coating under the same conditions I had 305 degrees. After I got the pipe put back on I took the quad out in the field back behind the shop and did a few hard laps and came back in and shut it down right away and just sat there, normally my right leg would start getting a wee bit on the warm side but I can honestly say that now I barely even felt any heat.

Looking for it as we speak. Tried to look on DEI's page but to no avail.
My big thing is that it makes sense to wrap your pipe up, but so many people tak about the damage it does to the pipe itself. (With no pictures to be found by the way) Could it be that wrap just gets a bad...rap?
I wanna try it becaus elike I said, it makes sense and it does look sexy.
I'll keep looking for the article.

Not quite the write up I got but it covers a lot of the same topics and issues.

It will discolor/stain the pipe but usually some sanding/buffing brings it right back. Especially if the pipe is stainless. Hot spots can occur if one does not pay attention to the wrap spacing and how tight the wrap is. I took some picks and wil try to post them tonight.

I just read the article and I see where he is coming from. I also agree that any HP gains will be negligible. I think one has to understand what they want to achieve by adding header wrap. My goal was to keep my pants from melting. I understand the metallurgy issues due to the higher temps and cooling cycles. But his NASCAR application doesn't really apply to quads. Stock car engines run wide open 90-98% of a 3-4hr race. The get very small cooling cycles every lap at best and only during pit stops on the big tracks so I too would not wrap those headers.

However even the fastest quad racers run wide open throttle only a small percentage of the time. I would think desert racers, flat track, pikes peak would have a bit more WOT time but nothing like stock car engines.

So it comes down to personal preferance and the risk one is willing to take. Being a tight wad I went the wrap route. Scott went the coating route which I have to agree looks nicer than a wrap, Both have pros/cons, & hi/low costs.

All things being equal for properly tuned quad engine I will take the risk of hurting my pipe. But its used anyway and I am doubt Dasa extends they warranty to the second owner.

Each rider has to make the decision themselves.

Ok, here you go. The first one is after wrapping, allowing to dry and about 3 coats of Hi-temp header paint. It does smoke like the engine is on fire for quite awhile when you first fire it up.

These show things after a couple of dune trips. It does fade with use. I had tried the guard before wrapping but it got as hot as the pipe due to no insulators. Now I use it to protect the wrap. You can see where my knee rubbed a little on the first 180.

Slip-on section. I used stainless tie wraps and hose clamps to hold everything in place.

Again, if I was racing MX or Desert and encountered alot of mud I probably would not use wrap. Power washing/scrubbing is a nemesis to header wrap. I do recommend starting the engine after washing and running it until it quits steaming to get the water dried out.

I had mine wrapped for about a year and when I took it off there was absolutely nothing wrong with the pipe other than being a little dirty. I sealed mine also and never really had a problem with mud or anything. As far as power gains go...I don't think it does anything for it, if you are going to do this it has to be strictly for temp control and nothing else. Like Mike said after washing the quad let it run for a couple of minutes and let it dry out and you'll be good to go.

Put mine on today...first time with the bung. I lined it up so the bung would be in the middle of the wrap then I cut the wrap in the middle to split the bung. It turned out good. Mine is DEI black wrap.
