    Default Sever not Found/Connection Reset

I am getting a lot of server not found and connection reset messages when accessing several websites, but mostly Yahoo. What's the deal?

    Which browser?
Does it hit when you click refresh after seeing the server not found?
Does it hit once, then closing the browser is the only thing that fixes it?

Firefox. I click on the 'Try Again' button that's available in the message. Sometimes it only takes one time but other times I have to click on that button several times before the page actually loads.

COX Cable. "Have you tried pinging/running tracert to the sites" You might as well be speaking Japanese because I have no idea what that is.

When it happens again leave Firefox as is and try IE. Try both with the firewall shut off. If that yields no results then start pingin'.

    Quick & easy instructions
    1. Step 1
Open the Command Window, which allows you to use command line utilities. Click "Start" and select "Run." Type "cmd" in the box that pops up. Click "OK" or hit "Enter."
    2. Step 2
Type "ping" in the Command Window.
    3. Step 3
      Hit the space bar once.
    4. Step 4
Type the website address that you want to ping, after the space. For example, if you want to ping eBay, type "www.ebay.com" after the space.
    5. Step 5
Hit "Enter." If the website is up and actively responding, you receive four to five replies back from the server that you pinged.
    6. Step 6
Analyze the information. The lower the round trip number in milliseconds, the better. The higher the round trip number in milliseconds, the higher the latency, which may indicate a network problem between your computer and the server you pinged.
    ****************

Ping a site that you know is rarely ever down like Google or Yahoo or MSN. Watch how quick the reply entries come back. Then ping the site giving you problems. Is it slower?, alot slower?, no replies at all and/or all four replies time out?

If you can ping one and not the other, it means the site is having problems. If you can ping it, but not connect via a browser, it may be DNS issues.

Traceroute is a little more involved but you can't hurt anything, you are just reading packet routing data, not changing anything.

ID10T Errors, very very common. Also the PEBKAC Errors, I see a lot of those too!
