I am slowly putting my new pc together and was wondering if I should go ahead and buy Vista or wait for a bit and get Windows 7. Currently running XP but think it's about time that I step up to something a little newer...any opinions either way

stay on XP until Win7 is out - vista is a pig. I am running Ultimate and its not horrible but I hear the beta of 7 is promising.
10/22 is the release however if you buy vista now youll get the free upgrade. personally Id tell you to stay on xp. alot of the workstations at work are on xp win2k and win2k3!!
Currently toyless
Stay away from Vista, run either XP or 7.

Looks like we all agree! Throw XP back on it and move to Windows 7 when it's ready.
Thanks for ther advice guys...looks like it's back to XP for now.
I've done about a dozen or so upgrades from Windows XP to Windows 7 and I've not had any issues with the upgrade. Definitely wait for Win7. I've got it on all my desktop pc's here at my house and it's a pretty stable OS.

I'm diggin' 7 also. My favorite feature is the permanent "show desktop" in the far bottom right corner. Makes it super easy to hide everything just by slamming your mouse to the bottom right corner and clicking.![]()

LOL, they had that in Vista and XP also, it's the show desktop icon.
You should try "throwing" your windows around, it's kinda cool...Grab a window by the titlebar and throw it to the right side of the monitor (click hold and toss/click release) and you'll get the window to expand to 1/2 of the monitor, then you can take and do the same thing to the other side of the monitor. Pretty slick. If you toss it to the top, it opens it full screen (just like double clicking the title bar).
Just some little tips/tricks for ya...

Of course that was in XP/Vista, but it was something you had to aim for. In 7 its just a blank 'box' thats in the absolute bottom right corner. No aiming necessary.
