    Default okay need computer help!

ok so my old desktop took a crap on me here is what happend, one day i rebooted and the screen didnt come back on, so i unplugged checked all connections and rebooted again, still no picture on the screen. left it off for the whole day, next day i turn it on and its working good for about 3 weeks then bam it happens again, this time when i put the tower button to turn it on as soon as i let go of the button it powers off, so i took it apart to check some things, and then it starts turning on fine, but still no display on the montior. i could really care less about the computer itself but i want the stuff on the harddrive, the only problem is i dont want to buy one of those external case things that you can put an internal hard drive into, only to find out it was the hard drive that took a crap, so any suggestions or help on narrowing the issue down?

That is alot going on there. So do you want to fix this PC or just recover your data? Or both?

Either way, I will need the system.

Since you are broke, see if you can borrow a tower and slave the drive into it and see if windows sees the drive.

Adam, External drive enclosures are pretty cheap these days. You can find an IDE or SATA enclosure for $20 at Fry's Electronics.

You'll still need a computer to plug it into so my 2cents says get the pc fixed or get a new one, then use the fancy new external drive enclosure with the old drive on the other pc. IF you have another PC, you can check the drive in that pc, either way, you need to get the PC fixed or a new one.

I bet Elder could fix that thing up or get you a SMOKIN (say it like jim carey in the mask) deal on a new one...
