Might be wanting to get a new laptop or desktop soon and then sell my old one. What's the best way to retrieve all my files from old computer and then sell it?
Sounds like you want to do two things.
One: Move all your data from the old PC to the new.
Two: Delete all your data from the old PC so no one can see what kinky porn you look at.
To move your data you can burn everything to CD/DVD, or copy to External Hard Drive. Then copy it to the new PC.
Or, you can network both the old and new PCs and move your data directly to the new PC.
The first does give you a backup, the second does not.
After either of these steps delete all of your data from the old PC. Be sure to empty the Recycle Bin too! Delete you email, accounts and settings, Favorites/Bookmarks, etc. I'm sure there are a few others I can't think of right now.
There are utilities that will wipe the "free space" on the hard drive but unless you have real sensitive info it can be overkill.
The best way to remove your data is to reformat the entire drive and re-install the OS.
If you decide to go with a desktop get with me first, Data move and data deleting is included if you buy one from me. Also realize your PC will not sell for more then $200 at best.

I am thinking about buying a new desktop, so I will definitely talk to you first before I do anything.
I would say to completely reinstall windows before giving your system to someone else. I know that windows stores passwords and odd information in places you might not expect. Its virtually impossible to erase your tracks. The easiest way is to get your info off and then format the drive when installing windows. Makes certain that none of that stuff from farmsex.com gets to the next owner.
why not use your old computer as a file server? put all your pics, music etc on the old one, plus you can store copies of new data on the old one to act as a backup
